Quinta da Soalheira

Quinta da Soalheira, which was bought by the Borges brothers in 1904, is in São João da Pesqueira, in the Cima Corgo subregion. The Torto River splits the estate in half: the crags on the left bank are hidden by dense brush and the vineyards on this 340-hectare property are all located on the right bank.

We produce our best Port and Douro wines from the grapes grown on this estate.

On its way down to the Douro, the Torto River splits the estate in two. The craggy hillsides of the left bank are hidden by dense brush. The vineyards all lie along the right bank.

Its name, Soalheira, already warns us of the heat that will beat down as we tread its paths in midsummer. Once you have travelled the 5.5 kilometres from the main road, you feel like you understand what the expression “Deep Douro" means. A narrow road, with steep and winding curves that eventually opens up onto an unobstructed landscape: cistus, rosemary and strawberry trees laced vineyards that rise 500 metres and more above the bed of the river that, here, is still meandering.

The estate has been producing grapes for our Port Wines ever since 1904, when the Borges brothers bought Quinta da Soalheira. Today, the estate’s grapes are still used in the same way and allow us to produce our vintages and also our best Douro wines.
