Quinta de Simaens

Quinta de Simaens is in Felgueiras, in the very heart of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region. This 9-hectare property exudes the close intertwining of nature and the labours of humankind. The particularity of its soil, the climate, the regional grape varieties and the vine-growing methods, make Quinta de Simaens quite unique in the region.

Each step you take along the asphalted road, flanked by two large, green and leafy areas, is imbued with serenity. It makes you feel like taking a deep breath and drawing in the oxygen from the eucalyptus trees that have been here for years and now line the road.

A little further on, the estate’s natural relief, accentuated by the vineyards, creates unique contours. Ahead, these smooth contours are disrupted by the geometric outline of a high wall. At its centre, an emblazoned gate suggests to those who do not know the region that a manor house lies beyond. The monumentality of the structure is a reminder of the historical consequentiality of Simaens.

We produce some of our best Vinho Verde wines here, in a highly distinctive terroir that is characterized by hillside vineyards, now over 30 years old, planted in schist-clay soil that doesn’t need to be watered. Our main Production and Winemaking Centre is just 500 metres away, in Macieira da Lixa.

Here, the recently installed Self-Consumption Photovoltaic Production Unit - UPAC represents one of the first ecological steps that we have taken towards sustainability. This unit, designed to draw clean power from sunlight and considerably reduce environmental CO2 emissions, comprises over 1,000 square metres of photovoltaic panels. On average, it supplies 30% of the power required to run the Lixa Production and Winemaking Center.
